Here is copy/paste of the breakdown of skin shader written by Chris. Saved in here for future reference.

  • Base Blend Map

  • Fast SSS2 in Base

  • FastSSS2 (with pink skin preset)

  • Diffuse unlit plugged into the sub-surface color map

  • Diffuse color is set to white

  • Single Scatter Map is plugged into the Diffuse Amount Map

  • Spec map is set to 0

  • Coat Material 0 - VraySkin (using only for spec) in order to take advantage of double lobe spec

  • All diffuse and SSS set yo 0 on this shader

  • Spec turned on default

  • Both specs turned on

  • Fresnel turned off on both specs

  • Blend Amount 0

  • Set to VrayFresnel with IOR at 1.33 to match skin

  • Blend material set to Additive mode to make sure that the SSS still comes through the spec

  • Displacement

  • Used displacement map from data

  • Displacement set to View Dependent, edge length to 0.5

  • Subd amount to 8
